The Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology (KSMCB) has made great strides in life science research in Korea, in spite of its relative short history. In terms of achievement, our contribution to the knowledge-base of life sciences has been exemplary, driven by the passionate and creative devotion of our members.
A scientific society should provide opportunities in the exchange of knowledge and collaboration in research among its members, with the ultimate aim of dissemination in high quality journals. KSMCB has presented high quality research results and provided a place for active continuous discussions. It has been a pleasure to see that the society has become an important place for interaction and education of younger and developing scholars.
Now that we are producing excellent and eminent scientific results, it would be a fantastic achievement to have our conferences regarded in high esteem internationally, attracting prominent researchers from all over the world. We should also attend international conferences and actively display our ability and contributions, while also working together to promote the suitability of our conferences as an important international platform. The opportunity to do this has currently been made easier for us, as we will be hosting the IFCB Meeting (ICCB) representing cell and molecular biologist from over 50 countries in Seoul during our Fall Meeting this year. I wish to emphasize this as a chance for our society to leap to the next level by fully utilizing the international network available during this gathering.
The society journal 'Molecules and Cells' has become a valuable treasure for our organization and the importance of it has increased internationally. I will make every effort to help the editor-in-chief and all the editorial staff, who work hard on facilitating native and foreign scholars contribute excellent articles, thus making our journal become a leading one. We should seek to continuously improve its standing in order to develop it as a major international journal in life sciences.
Although tertiary institutions such as universities are responsible for education in general, the society has also an equally important role to play. Recently, our board of education has actively held training programs for biology teachers and 'Young Forum' programs for high school students. Now we would like to improve education standards for college students by developing various kinds of educational media. We should analyze the problems we have and keep up the hard work to be prepared for the future.
Our society should also speak out for national investments in the fields of life sciences, and foster an enhanced research environment for the next generation of young scholars.
With the wisdom of our members, I will step up to this challenge.
